The Alvis family have farmed Lye Cross, near the Somerset village of Cheddar, for 400 years. The family’s herd of more than 1,000 cows graze the pasture-lands to produce the rich milk that makes the cheese used in these crisps.
The Alvis family are known as the “Master Cheese makers” and combine traditional techniques, that have been passed down from generations, with new technology to give them the title of Master Cheese makers. The Alvis family practice turning and stacking the curds by hand which allows them to mature and develop the full, distinctive West Country farmhouse Cheddar flavour that goes into Pipers crisps.
